100 Years of National Awakening, Yet Only 3% of Population Earns University Degrees

Jakarta, 1 May 2008 – Although it has been 100 years since Indonesia declared its National Awakening, still only a small percentage of the Indonesian population is able to live better as a result of earning degrees from higher education institutions compared to what its neighboring countries have achieved. Only 3% of the Indonesian population is able to attain undergraduate degrees from higher education institutions, whereas Thailand has achieved 15%, Malaysia 28%, and the Philippines an amazing 40%.

Jakarta, 14 May 2008 – Sampoerna Foundation and its strategic partners, among them the National Department of Education and the Jakarta Provincial Government as well as around 10.000 supporters will march together from the National Monument’s South West Crossing towards the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in light of National Education Day and 100 years commemoration of National Awakening (18/5).

Women Crusading for Education In Commemoration of a Century of National Awakening

Jakarta, April 16, 2008 – In the run-up to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of National Awakening, Sampoerna Foundation plans to hold a number of activities. To kick off this series of events, Sampoerna Foundation will hold a media discussion on” Women Crusading for Education” to highlight the contribution of women to education in Indonesia at Anomali Coffee, Jakarta (16/04).
