Teachers’ moral in profesional certification
Jakarta (Koran Tempo: (23/01/08) During the teachers’ certification process, independent teams, as well as the internal team established by National Education Ministry’s Teachers’ Certification Consortium and the public have learnt about rampant cheating and violation committed by teachers who joined the certification through portfolio assessment. The irregularities found were varying from falsification of training certificate, award certificate, teaching working plan, and fake diploma. Moreover, almost all of the fake documents have been legalized by their school principles. There were also briberies, where money has been inserted among the documents submitted. The most embarrassing case was reported when assessor found a teacher replacing the photo of an original certificate owner with his own photograph in a falsified document which unfortunately for them mixed with the documents photocopies submitted for certification process. Each Teachers Training Institute appointed to oversee the certification process in their respective regions keeps the record of those irregularities.

Only 1.1 percent of lecturers are capable of doing research
Surabaya (Kompas: (23/01/08) Only around 1.1% of 180,000 lecturers in Indonesia is capable of doing research properly. No wonder, Indonesia’s contribution in science development is very limited. Mien A Rifai APU, an assessor for competitive grants (penilai hibah bersaing) at the Directorate General of Higher Learning at the National Education Ministry, said in Surabaya, on Tuesday (01/22), ”This is my conclusion based on research proposals submitted to the Directorate General of Higher Learning. Generally speaking only 2,000 lecturers are capable of doing research properly.”

No mapping on Philanthropy Activities. Increasing Awareness, Abundant Fund
Jakarta (Kompas: (16/01/08) Philanthropic activities in Indonesia are quite significant and they could give a huge contribution on community empowerment and development. However those activities were carried out without coordination and sustainability. Consequently, philanthropic activities’ contribution on the settlement of various social, humanitarian and environmental problems could not be carried out effectively. “Indonesia has a great resource of philanthropy. Many companies are carrying out their CSR programs. The media also serve as philanthropy media which help raise funds from the community. Indonesian Muslims also contribute their alms,” said Ismid Hadad, Head of Indonesian Philanthropic Association (PFI), in Jakarta, on Tuesday (15/1).
