'Final exam ends hopes of higher education'

Jakarta (The Jakarta Post: 11/07/06) The controversy over the government's national final examination for high school students continues to rage, with many observers, parents and students slamming the test as unfair. As evidence, critics point out that many of the students who failed the exam had good grades and were set to enter university. With the new school year about to begin, The Jakarta Post asked residents for their views on the issue.

SFSCJ-Yayasan Mitra Netra: Volunteers for the 1000 Books for the Blind Program

sfscj mitra netra1On 30th June 2006, Sampoerna Foundation Scholars Club (SFSC) Jakarta organized its second quarter of social activity by coordinating with Yayasan Mitra Netra, a foundation that concentrates on helping blind people. The purpose of the acitivity was to support the implementation of a program titling ”1000 Books for the Blind”, which was proclaimed in December 2005.

Letter-writing Competition

Jakarta (Suara Pembaruan: 07/07/06) Karawaci Super-mall and Sampoerna Foundation hold a letter-writing competition bringing up the theme ‘A letter for my friend,” for children visiting the shopping center. Winner of the competition will be announced on Sunday (9/7).
