Playing in the jungle of education quality

Jakarta (Suara Pembaruan: 01/07/06) Various arguments have been presented in the debates concerning the passing grade in the recent national examination. Each side presents different framework with very varied paradigms. It seems absurd to hear an education expert saying that it is not yet the time for us to discuss about graduates’ quality.  Such an opinion give an impression that the entire national examination participants shall graduate or in other words no examination is needed therefore there’s no need to set a standard. Even though a standard is needed to obtain a better quality.

Failed education system

Jakarta (The Jakarta Post: 01/07/06) The Education Ministry reports that around 9 percent of high school students failed the national final examinations. Ironically, some of them had already been admitted to universities through special admissions programs for bright and talented students. Some disappointed students took to the streets to protest the results.

Editorial : Meaningless passing grade

Jakarta (Media Indonesia: 20/06/06) The most tormenting moments for parents and Senior High School students is over. The National Education Ministry has announced the good news that the national examination for senior high school has produced a spectacular outcome. This year’s passing rate for senior high school  is 91.43%, an increase compared to last years’ passing rate of 80,76%. This means, less than 10% of students failed in the national examination
