Link-Match Education and Business Sector Needs: 1st Public-Private Partnership Discussion Series

This first discussion from the series covered the problems encountered by the education sector in providing human resources for the industrial sector. The discussion titled  “Link and Match Education Indonesia” was held at the Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute (SF-TI), Jakarta (10/31). This discussion was participated in by representatives of the Department of National Education (Departmen Pendidikan Nasional: Depdiknas), higher learning institutes, education sector observers, private sector entities, and the Sampoerna Foundation.

Bantul Regency Administration Receives 150 Thousand Euros from Deutshe Bank
Yogyakarta, October 30, 2007. Bantul Regency Administration, Yogyakarta, has received € 150,000 or Rp.2 billion in assistance from Deutsche Bank, channeled through the Sampoerna Foundation, for the reconstruction of the SMPN 3 Jetis Junior High School Building that was damaged during an earthquake. The new building was dedicated by Sapto H. Sakti, Communication Director for Sampoerna Foundation, with the Deputy Regent of Bantul, Sumarno, on hand to witness the event (10/30).

Education and Industry Correlation is Still a Problem
Jakarta (Kompas: (03/11/07) Link and match between education and industry still has a problem. Relevancy between education and industry is more than just transferring knowledge or specific skills required by the industry.  The industry also needs workers who are capable of thinking, communicating, interacting, and working in a team. "Those skills should have been taught in basic and secondary education levels and they are closely related to character building," said Utomo Dananjaya, Director of Institute for Education Reform, in a discussion on link and match in education in Indonesia, last Wednesday.
