Editorial: Schools are not factories
Jakarta (Kompas: (12/11/07) Protest against the national examination for elementary school / Islamic elementary school / elementary school for children with special needs is still going on. The government finally makes a compromise. Schools will be given the authority to determine students’ graduation in the 2008 elementary school national examination. However, in three years, students’ graduation will be determined by a national standard.

Click to see real sizeJakarta, November 5, 2007 – Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute (SF TI) and Edith Cowan University (ECU) Australia are cooperating with the Education Offices of Jakarta, Bali, and Bangka Belitung to open a teachers’ workshop designed to create master teachers for Jakarta, Bali, and Bangka Belitung. The workshop titled “Master Teacher” was launched by Director General for PMPTK of the Department of National Education (Depdiknas), Fasli Jalal, and Director of the SF TI, Kenneth Cock, with senior ECU Australia educator, Dr. Graeme Lock, also on hand for the event at the SF TI campus (11/05).
