2001
“Inception"

  • Putera Sampoerna and shareholders of PT HM Sampoerna establish Sampoerna Foundation (SF).
  • The Foundation begins providing scholarships to high school and national graduate students.
2002
“Development”
  • More than 4,500 scholarships awarded by adding two cohorts: national undergraduate and international MBA scholarships.
2003
“Expansion”
  • To better communicate our cause to the public, we enhance our promotional and communication activities
  • One of the highlights in 2003 is our involvement in providing scholarships for winners of the National Science Olympiad.
2004
“Expansion”
  • By the end of 2004, the cumulative number of scholarships disbursed  reaches 12,326. Sampoerna Foundation Alumni Association (SFAA) is formalized and our internship program is established.
  • We continue our commitment to  sponsor the National and International Science Olympiads. We receive monetary and in-kind contributions from 17 local and international institutions and companies.
2005
“Innovation”
  • Three state high schools are adopted under our United Schools Program (USP). We launch two education quality improvement initiatives under the SF Teacher Institute and the Institutional Development Program (IDP).
  • Together with Freeman Foundation and other partners, SF takes the lead in education recovery after the tsunami in Aceh. 
2006
“Partnership”
  • Our founder commits to donate up to US$ 150 million over a 10 year period for Indonesia’s education through SF.
  • SF launches the Sampoerna School of Business and Management –ITB (the pilot project of IDP) and Student Loan (in collaboration with IFC and BII).
  • Cumulative scholarships given now exceeds 25,000.
  • We formalize and allocate resources to an Education Recovery Program to assist during natural disasters.
2007
“Professionalism”
  • The number of USP schools increases to 17 schools and 5 Madrasahs in 12 provinces.
  • We organize the first Indonesian Teacher Conference to accommodate 8,000 teachers from across Indonesia.
  • Our partner list grows to more than 140 companies, institutions and media.
  • Officially, we become the first Indonesian philanthropic organization to receive ISO 9000 for our quality management systems.

Who We Are

Sampoerna Foundation (SF) is a professional philanthropy organization and a service provider for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with absolute focus in the field of education. Since 2001, we have given out 30,000 scholarships, adopted 22 schools, offered world-class training for teachers and principals, transformed a graduate business school, and set up a student loan facility.
