SMAN 11 Bandung join SQIP Program

Bandung (Pikiran Rakyat: 24/06/06) State Senior High School 11 Bandung and State Senior High School 3 Depok are two schools from West Java Province that participate in School Quality Improvement Program (SQIP). Aside of these two schools, four more schools have joined the program, namely State Senior High School 2 Sekayu in Palembang, State Senior High School 5 Bukit Tinggi, State Senior High School 4 Denpasar in Bali, and State Senior High School 2 Balikpapan.

Vice Principal for Public Relations of State Senior High School 11 Bandung, Dra. Hj. Etty Rochetin, Dipl. Tesl, told "PR", on Wednesday (21/6), that SQIP is focused on teachers’ quality development. This program is run by Sampoerna Foundation in selected schools across Indonesia.

This program is carried out in training sessions concerning the subjects taught in schools. The trainers and instructors came from Singapore. "This program is aimed at improving teachers’ quality and professionalism. Trials have been carried out with English and Math teachers last May in Jakarta,” she said.

The MoU on the implementation of this program has been signed by Bandung Mayor, City Education Agency (Disdik) and Sampoerna Foundation in the end of May. This program started on June 10. One day, schools that join the SQIP will hold a competition for teachers and students to evaluate this program.

Asked the reasons why State Senior High School 11 Bandung and State Senior High School 3 Depok that were selected among high schools in West Java, Etty said the decision was in the hand of education agency. The selection is based on criteria set by the education agency.
