Sampoerna Helps Train 385 Teachers in Aceh
(Jakarta Post: 18/06/08). BANDA ACEH: At least 385 school teachers and principals in Aceh have undergone the Teacher Education and Training in Aceh (TETA) program to improve the quality of education in the province.

The program was implemented by the Sampoerna Foundation with financial support from the Credit Suisse Group Foundation (CSGF). It began in November 2006 and will conclude on June 21 this year.

Sampoerna Foundation spokesman Sapto H. Sakti said Monday the program was intended to raise the level of teaching in schools across the province. He said the training program was part of the Sampoerna Foundation’s efforts to aid the rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the province, and with this assistance, the competence of teaching staff and quality of education would be much improved.

He said targeting the education sector was of prime importance because it contributed to the province’s long term rehabilitation.
