Adopt a Teacher Program Mobil Cepu Ltd.-SF launched in Bojonegoro, Blora, Tuban
Bojonegoro, October 23, 2008 – Mobil Cepu Ltd. (MCL), a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation, and a contractor for Badan Pelaksana Kegiatan Usaha Hulu Minyak dan Gas Bumi (BPMIGAS) for the Cepu Block (Blok Cepu), announced today that it has entered the first phase of an Education Development Program in cooperation with Sampoerna Foundation in Bojonegoro, Blora, and Tuban regencies.

Vice President for Public Affairs MCL, Maman Budiman, signed the cooperation agreement for the program with Eddy Henry, Director of Programs dan Alumni for Sampoerna Foundation today as to initiate the implementation of the teacher training development program for the regencies. .

The Adopt-a-Teacher Program is oriented toward the improvement of the quality of education in the various regions across Indonesia. This program consists of a comprehensive teacher training program designed to upgrade and develop quality professional teachers who will be able to facilitate the improvement of education in the regions where they work.

 “Through the cooperation with Sampoerna Foundation and the dedication of the teachers and the support of their schools, we hope this program will succeed in improving the quality of education provided in the schools in and around the Cepu Block,” said Michael K. Nelson, President and General Manager of Mobil Cepu Ltd.

In August 2008, MCL and Sampoerna Foundation started a basic general study to determine which specific education improvement programs would be most appropriate to each of the areas covered. 

The overall Education Improvement Program is expected to benefit approximately 30,000 students.  This program, conducted under the guidance of Sampoerna Foundation facilitators/counselors, will be implemented in three stages in 60 schools, where 390 teachers are participating in the Adopt-a-Teacher Program.

“We really hope that the training we are providing will be implemented properly so that it creates an increasingly conducive atmosphere for learning in every class in which the participating teachers are teaching,” said Eddy Henry, Director of Programs and Alumni for Sampoerna Foundation.

MCL supports programs and organizations that focus on education ranging from grade school to higher levels. MCL also supports other programs designed to increase the number of well-trained teachers and to provide opportunities for teachers to improve their skills. In the Cepu Block, MCL is committed to continuously undertaking community programs for the benefit and development of the local populace, especially in the fields of health, education, and economic development.
