Jakarta, 27th February 2006. Sampoerna Foundation (SF) launched the Student Help Student (SHS) at Bina Nusatara (Binus) High in Simprug, Jakarta. “The program aims to develop philanthropic movement since early age,” Yosafat Erie Sutanto, the foundation’s Outreach Officer, stated.

According to Erie, the technical of this program is really quite simple, which is by selling SHS merchandise to students from the national plus and international schools in Jakarta. The price of the merchandise ranges from Rp 10,000 (US$ 1.5) to Rp 70,000 (US$ 7.5) and consists of t-shit, pens and notebooks.

“The entire profit of the sales will be channeled to fund financially disadvantaged students. The scholarship monthly fund also varies, from Rp 30,000 (U$ 3.5) for elementary level, Rp 42,500 (U$ 5) for junior high and Rp 60,000 (U$ 7) for high school students,” Erie explained.

During the launch, Binus High symbolically handed over their financial support to SF for SHS program. Peter Saidi as the Deputy Principal of the school together with Vivi Trenggono as the Coordinator Community Service for Binus High represented the school while the foundation was represented by Yosafat Erie Sutanto and SF scholars, Erni dan Andika from SMA 74.

“We hope that this SHS program will not cease to stop and the foundation will continue to propose this program to other interested schools that have strong social concern”.

It is expected that SHS will become a routine program that embodies philanthropic values and promote social concern among young people.
