For the pilot project, Sampoerna Foundation has decided to work with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). This local partner will assist in grooming the new generation of business graduates who can compete on the international stage. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between ITB and the Foundation during November 2005. As a starting point, the partnership will focus on improving the quality in the School of Business and Management at ITB (Sampoerna SBM-ITB). Subsequent steps included the development of the business plan for Sampoerna SBM-ITB, the revamp of its existing programs and the establishment of SBM ITB's Jakarta campus at the Sampoerna Strategic Square.

The partnership will raise standards of productivity and produce intellectually equipped local graduates who are capable of competing with their counterparts from other Asian nations. It is expected that within 10 years, Sampoerna SBM-ITB will be identified as one of the best business schools in Asia. The initiative will later expand to include other Indonesian universities in an effort to build capacity, and transfer knowledge.

Moving forward we are optimistic that we will gain additional knowledge and experience in addressing these systemic educational issues. Working collaboratively with others, we can make a difference.
