Sampoerna SBM-ITB establishes KMSI
Jakarta  The Jakarta Post: (01/08/07) In an effort to help the country overcome brain drain, Sampoerna School of Business and Management-ITB (Sampoerna SBM-ITB) announced the establishment of the Knowledge Management Society Indonesia (KMSI) in Jakarta last week. Dr. Jann Hidajat Tjakraatmadja was elected as its first chairman.

KMSI is a community of intellectuals from various institutions like universities, governmental organizations, social institutions and business practitioners. The aim of this non-profit society is developing and preserving knowledge as part of a larger goal to make the best use of human and natural resources in Indonesia. One of the main short-term targets of KMSI is to establish standard Knowledge Management (KM) and its certification. "The existence of standard knowledge management will help facilitate communication between various organizations in order to accelerate the development and implementation of knowledge at each institution," said Jann Hidajat.

The Sampoerna SBM-ITB, Jann Hidajat said, took the initiative to establish KMSI as part of its concern over the brain drain in past years due to a lack of opportunity for Indonesian scientists to apply their knowledge and skills in their home country. "This happened due to a poor knowledge management in the country," said Jann Hidajat, adding that he hoped Indonesian scientists, especially academics and practitioners, would welcome the establishment of KMSI.

In the initial stage, KMSI in cooperation with Sampoerna SBM-ITB organized a workshop on knowledge management with Practical Implementation of Knowledge Management in Organizations as the topic on June 26-27. The speakers included Prof. Jann Hidajat, John Welly (former HR director of PT Telkom) and Moh. Haitan Rachman (director PT Macca System Infokom Indonesia).

About Us

Sampoerna Foundation (SF) is a professional philanthropy organization and a service provider for Corporate Social Responsibility with a commitment to education. Since its inception in 2001, SF has awarded more than 32,000 scholarships, supported 23 schools and trained over 10,000 teachers throughout Indonesia.

With the vision to create future young leaders with strong moral fiber through quality education, SF began by providing scholarships to financially disadvantaged children with good academic standing. In 2005, SF formulated a program for School Development to develop best-practice, state-owned high schools as models for other surrounding schools to emulate.

In 2006, SF launched the first, private Teacher Institute to improve the skills and professional development of Indonesian teachers. Today, this has evolved into a government licensed, degree-granting Institute with international accreditation to develop a new generation of teachers. SF also recently launched the Sampoerna Academies, which are international standard boarding schools, integrated with national curriculum and dormitory living for poor children in rural areas.

The Sampoerna Foundation is committed to professionalism, transparency and accountability and was awarded the ISO9001;2000 certification for its quality management systems.
