Bandung, August 25, 2007 — PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII), International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Sampoerna Foundation (SF) are cooperating with The People's Hope Institute (Institut Teknologi Harapan Bangsa: ITHB)-Bandung to provide student loans for young people in Diploma, Undergraduate and Graduate.
This cooperation is a concrete step to exercise the commitment of BII, IFC dan SF as the first private sector entities providing loan facilities for higher education. The program's products include low-interest student loans of Rp 10 million to Ro 100 million for a period of study completed in no more than 36 months.
This payment facility can be used at selected universities to cover the expense of registration and administration fees, and tuition for one year or the entire period of study for Strata 2 programs.
ITHB Bandung is the sixth higher learning institution to be selected for participation in the loan program after Prasetya Mulya Business School, Institut Pengembangan Manajemen Indonesia (IPMI)Business School, the School of Business and Management ITB and Bina Nusantara University. Samual Tarigan, Rector of ITHB, expressed pride in ITHB's selection as one of the higher earning institutions participating in this program. “We are very proud to have been selected for this program. For that reason, we would to express our deepest appreciation to BII, IFC and Sampoerna Foundation for providing the loan facilities for our students,” Samuel said.
In this student loan program, SF is providing expertise, knowledge and the use of its education sector work network in Indonesia, while BII is playing the role of fund provider and administrator. BII will cooperate with SF in this loan disbursement process by acting on recommendations of students qualifying for the loan facility from SF.
“We are doing this on the basis of our commitment to work together so that Indonesian students can continue their studies at institutions of higher learning,” said Elan Merdy, Chief Operating Officer of Sampoerna Foundation. "Existing scholarship schemes usually only cover needy students with exceptional academic standings. Those students who do not qualify for scholarships because they are average academically and fairly stable financially often also need additional funding sources to enable them to finish their university educations,” he continued.
Sanjay Kapoor, Director of Consumer Banking for BII said, “BII Student Loans provide direct educational support to individuals with potential in Indonesia.”
