| Education, Leadership ‘New Way’ |
Page 1 of 4 Jakarta (Kompas: (20/11/07) As a ‘new way’ for the nation’s revival, discourses concerning youth leadership should be used as an opportunity to scrutinize the direction of our national education. In the past 40 years, our education system was resulted from the New Order’s oppressive regime. How far such an oppressive education system could produce transformative leaders?
The power politics have dominated the direction of our education through various strategic policies such as, curriculum and national examination. However, our history showed that our founding fathers were indeed born and raised under the discriminative colonial education. This means that the impacts of the power politics are not always bad to education. However, under the New Order education system we have not seen any generation of strong leaders with integrity to act as an agent of change. Therefore, we have to work hard to produce young leaders and not let it happen as regeneration per se, but it should be produced through re-conception of education.
