Creating Active Learners: Standard Chartered Bank Supports Education Recovery Program

The Education Recovery Program in the Yogyakarta area has shown concrete and positive results, as most of the program beneficiary schools have started to implement project based learning. The program is the result of a partnership between Standard Chartered Bank and the Sampoerna Foundation.

Standard Chartered Bank provides scholarships through Sampoerna Foundation’s Education Recovery Program to support school reconstruction and training for teachers in disaster-stricken areas. Representatives of the bank visited the beneficiaries in the Gunung Kidul area on July 24, 2009 to monitor the success of the program, including the Adopt a Teacher program.

The bank was satisfied to see the implementation of Project Based Learning at the Duwet Elementary School, where students have started to adopt new learning methods that include making Batu Gamping, the materials for which can easily be found in the area. The new method was proven to encourage students to take a more active approach in the learning process.
