The location of Indonesia that is within the Pacific “ring of fire” makes the country prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. The Putera Sampoerna Foundation was one of the first organizations to arrive in Aceh after the 2004 tsunami to set up tents, and provide supplies and equipment, enabling schools to resume teaching activities. The Foundation also provided relief aid after the 2006 Yogyakarta and 2009 West Sumatra earthquakes and the 2010 Mt. Merapi eruption in Central Java. In 2009, the Putera Sampoerna Foundation established Bait Al-Kamil (House of Perfection), which has already received the National Alms Management Body (BAZNAS) license, enabling the Foundation to collect donations and zakat, which serves as a collection agency for the Muslim community to help pre-prosperous people.
Bait Al-Kamil is a caring humanitarian institute that responds to communities in need. In addition, it works to improve the lives of orphans by cultivating entrepreneurship through business mentoring and coaching.
Bait Al-Kamil supports the Pathway to Leadership grand strategy of the Putera Sampoerna Foundation to cultivate the spirit of giving. Together with other partners, including corporation and individual donors, Bait Al-Kamil nurtures compassionate assistance and assists in creating future leaders regardless of their economic circumstances.
Programs run by Bait Al-Kamil:
Compassionate Assistance Bait Al-Kamil nurtures with acts of compassion through two initiatives. The Scholarship for 1,000 Generations program focuses on giving gifted, pre-prosperous youths access to quality education with the goal of developing community leaders. The School Quality Development program of Bait Al-Kamil works to help educators and schools to improve school facilities and enhance teaching activities. As part of the program, the Bait Al-Kamil Training Center (BEKTACE) offers training and internships on automotive repair, graphic design, agriculture and fisheries.
Compassionate Relief Bait Al-Kamil’s Care for Indonesia program focuses on compassionate relief and disaster mitigation. Its mitigation program encompasses education and training regarding preparation and response to natural disasters. The deployment and recovery assistance program empowers orphans and other disaster victims with post-disaster programs to assure that they can be psychologically and economically independent. To do this, Bait Al-Kamil works with other institutions to ensure those in need are helped based on priorities of scale.
The Putera Sampoerna Foundation is the first Social Business Institution in Indonesia with the vision to nurture high caliber future Indonesian leaders and entrepreneurs in order to face the nation’s global challenges.
