Facts show that the quality and expertise of Indonesian teachers are still under average. The data from the Ministry of National Education in 2004/2005 showed that around 30.53% of high school teachers in Indonesia were not qualified to teach because of their low education levels. This is truly a sad fact because the teacher is the key to the success of Indonesian students in obtaining a good education. The better the quality of the teachers, the better the quality of the students.
Putera Sampoerna Foundation was enthused to improve the quality of teachers in the country by launching the Sampoerna School of Education (SSE), which aims to produce a new generation of qualified and international-standard Indonesian teachers as well as to become the best educational institution for teacher.
Sampoerna School of Education is the first private educational institution in Indonesia for teachers that incorporates curriculum and teaching methodologies from within and outside the country aims at producing the best teachers in the country. Sampoerna School of Education offers two bachelor programs: Math and English Bachelors.
Sampoerna School of Education offers a four-year education program providing opportunities for prospective teachers in Indonesia to become qualified teachers through continuing education, practice opportunities and research. Sampoerna School of Education provides human resources development concept that integrates theories and educational technology, curriculum development, as well as creative teaching and learning process.
Sampoerna School of Education also establishes cooperation with international institutions to provide opportunities for students to teach in other countries.
In an effort to support the best teaching-learning process, the Sampoerna School of Education is equipped by modern classrooms with comfortable design and advanced teaching and learning equipment. Sampoerna School of Education also has a library with extensive research materials and references.
Sampoerna School of Education provides professional career counseling services up to internship opportunities in a number of leading institutions to improve the teaching quality of each student. In addition, Sampoerna School of Education also helps students to find career opportunities after they graduate.
However, there are still many prospective teachers in Indonesia that have not been accommodated by SSE due to financial reasons. This is where the Putera Sampoerna Foundation expects the participation of all stakeholders, including government, private sectors and individuals, to support them in receiving education as qualified teachers.
The responsibility to produce qualified teachers lies on the hands of all stakeholders. By jointly provide assistance to prospective teachers in the form of funds, we have helped creating qualified young generations. Qualified teachers will produce qualified students, through their ability to nurture students’ creativity. These students are our future generation who have the spirit of leadership and competitiveness to face the global challenges in the future.
