Improving the quality of education is critical for Indonesia’s future development, but the statistics paint a grim picture of the current situation. Only 53 percent of the nation’s teachers meet standard requirements, and 20 percent of Indonesia’s classrooms are considered to be in poor condition, according to the Ministry of Education. In fact, Indonesia ranks 127th out of 182 countries in education spending, according to the World Bank.

The School Development Outreach’s mission is to elevate the standards and quality of Indonesia’s schools and teachers. With help from corporate donations and partnerships, School Development Outreach designs a range of diverse professional development programs for teachers, principals and administrators. It helps schools meet national and international standards in curriculum development, teaching and school management, and assists with the rehabilitation and reconstruction of physical facilities, especially in the wake of natural disasters.
