School Development Outreach Program

The development of Indonesia highly depends on improvements in the quality of its education, but the statistics paint a grim picture. Only 53 percent of the nation’s educators meet standard requirements, and 20 percent of classrooms in Indonesia are in poor condition (Ministry of Education, 2009). In education spending, Indonesia even ranks 127th from 182 countries, according to the World Bank (2009).

The mission of PSF-School Development Outreach is to advance the standard and quality of schools and individuals to help Indonesia face global challenges.

The PSF-School Development Outreach offers both innovative and progressive educational programs with assured quality, which is manifested by the track record and experience of the Putera Sampoerna Foundation in development training since 2005.

The PSF-School Development Outreach offers three programs for individual educators and schools:

School Development Program
The School Development Program is an advisory service assisting schools to meet or exceed the eight primary standards established by the Ministry of National Education. The School Development Program offers five plans for schools seeking to improve their curriculum, teaching methods, human resources, management of facilities and resources management.

Professional Development Program
The Professional Development Program is designed to cater to the needs of educators. Educators, principals and administrators will obtain upgraded skills and knowledge, and training based on the standards set by the Ministry of National Education. The plans are designed to help them comprehend a new framework of learning, enabling educators and administrators to support students to develop their full potential.

Education Recovery Program
School building and facilities that are safe, child-friendly and well equipped are essential for a conducive teaching environment. The Education Recovery Program assists schools in improving their physical facilities, including through renovations and rebuilding activities, upgrading their libraries and assists schools to meet their environmental responsibilities. The program also arranges donation activities of books and computers, and engages itself in programs to empower local school communities to improve the quality of education there.

With assistance from corporate donations and partnerships programs, the School Development Outreach offers a range of professional development programs for educators, principals and administrators. The program helps schools meet international standard in regards to curriculum, teaching and management, and also assists in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of physical facilities, particularly in the wake of natural disasters.
