2001

  • Putera Sampoerna and PT HM Sampoerna shareholders founded Putera Sampoerna Foundation
  • In the early stages, the foundation only provided scholarships for national high school and post-graduate (S2) students

2002

  • The S1 (undergraduate) National and International MBA scholarship programs were launched
  • More than 4,500 scholarships were distributed

2003

  • The foundation provided scholarships for winners of the National Science Olympics

2004

  • Recognizing the need for high quality educators, the Putera Sampoerna Foundation Teachers Institute (SFTI) was founded – the first institute in Indonesia to be engaged in the field of education
  • The Putera Sampoerna Foundation Alumni Association (SFAA) and the apprentice program were founded
  • More than 12,000 scholarships were distributed

2005

  • The Putera Sampoerna Foundation was one of the first organizations to arrive at the tsunami site in Aceh. Along with partners, PSF held a program to rehabilitate education in the province, among others, by setting up tents and other needs to assure that teaching activities can resume
  • United Schools Program (USP) adopted three schools to enhance the quality of schools

2006

  • In cooperation with the Bandung Institute of Sciences, the Management Business School (SBM-ITB) executive MBA program was founded in Jakarta to offer MBA degrees in Telecommunications, Business Law and Energy
  • The Student Loan and Student Financing program was launched for the first time in Indonesia, a non-collateral loan provided in cooperation with Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) – a World Bank division

2007

  • The first Indonesian Teachers Congress was held with more than 1,000 teachers and principals from across Indonesia attending
  • The Putera Sampoerna Foundation became the first philanthropy organization in Indonesia to obtain an ISO9001 certificate, an acknowledgement of the organization’s fine management system
  • USP adopted 17 schools and five Madrasah schools
  • The Putera Sampoerna Foundation introduced the Madrasah Quality Improvement Program (MQIP) and adopted one of the five Muslim religious schools to improve its education and curriculum quality
  • The Distinguished Speaker Series discussion was held, presenting noble prize winner Muhammad Yunus as the speaker. Muhammad Yunus is the founder of the micro-financial institution Grameen Bank and author of several books on philanthropy, social business and corporate social responsibility programs

2008

  • Putera Sampoerna Foundation became the first Education NGO to obtain the ISO9001:2000 certificate for its efficient management
  • Putera Sampoerna Foundation was invited by then-US President Bill Clinton to attend an event held by Clinton Global Initiatives to represent Indonesia
  • Bait Al-Kamil, a foundation associated with Putera Sampoerna Foundation , received a certificate from The National Board of Zakat (Badan Amil Zakat Nasional/BAZNAS), an Islamic institution in Indonesia that collects donations and zakat from Muslims. Bait Al-Kamil is the first secular NGO authorized to hold such activity.

2009

  • The Sampoerna Academy international boarding school was established for pre-prosperous senior high school students in Malang and Palembang. The school offers a three-year education that meets the curriculum standards of Cambridge.
  • The Sampoerna School of Education (SSE) was founded in Jakarta to offer degrees in education.
  • Cooperating with Bait Al-Kamil, The Putera Sampoerna Foundation received a certificate of approval from BAZNAS to distribute collected zakat. PSF and LSM are at present the only secular NGOs to obtain such certificate.

2010

  • Leveraging its pathway to Leadership grand strategy, Putera Sampoerna Foundation has evolved to position itself strongly as a Social Business Institution creating an ecosystem of innovation and empowerment to yield ever more initiatives and programs toward creating a more viable Indonesia, that is capable of interacting optimally in international circles.
  • Launching of an expanding new programs, including the Sahabat Wanita (Friends of Women) foundation and cooperative; the ACCESS Education Beyond initiative for promoting US Indonesia education exchange programs; and MEKAR Entrepreneur Network, an internet based entrepreneurship forum for the development of business leaders.
  • Launching of the Sampoerna School of Business as a part of Putera Sampoerna Foundation’s world class university initiative.
