“Establish schools of international standards, and promote the teaching of life skills and leadership development through boarding education” In support of the Ministry of National Education’s initiative “Sekolah Bertaraf Internasional”, Putera Sampoerna Foundation embarked on a complementary effort to provide deserving teens, students with excellent academic achievements and leadership character who come from the lowest economic quintile, with access to an international standard high school education through Sampoerna Academy. Sampoerna Academy is a partnership program between Putera Sampoerna Foundation and some provincial governments with a comprehensive boarding system to instill the values of leadership skills, morality, empathy, tolerance and social skills needed to facilitate the development of Indonesia’s future leaders. Sampoerna Academy is equipped with qualified teachers, high quality of curriculum, in which a combination of national curriculum and International General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGCSE), accredited by the University of Cambridge International Examinations, and English proficiency that will enable the graduates to qualify for the entry into any leading university in any English-speaking country. For the first step, two Sampoerna Academies -- SMAN 10 Malang (Sampoerna Academy) and SMA Negeri Sumatera Selatan (Sampoerna Academy) were established in 2009. As many as 232 students have been selected and awarded with student assistance. The student assistance scheme on this program covers tuition fees, dormitory-living expenses, text books, medical benefits and student’s uniforms. In 2011, another two Sampoerna Academies were established in Bogor and Bali, named SMA Sampoerna (Sampoerna Academy) and SMAN Bali Mandara (Sampoerna Academy). |
