Deri comes from a modest family. Her father works in a textile factory while her mother works in the garment industry. She is the eldest child of three children with a younger sister age twelve and a younger brother who is three years old. Deri chose to continue her studies abroad because she felt she would gain a broader opportunity by studying in a global scope. She is majoring in Industrial Engineering because this field has favorable prospective employment as Indonesia is a developing country in which various sectors are continuously progressing.

Deri is active in a variety of organizations; Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the International Student Organization, PERMIAS (Association of Indonesian Students in the US), ICx Friend (An off-campus international student organization). Deri was Vice President of Communications at Phi Theta Kappa, and an Event Organizer for PERMIAS. In March and April 2014, she was one of four campus delegates sent to the regional and yearly Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society Convention in Houston, Texas and Orlando, Florida where she attended various seminars and campus achievement awards ceremony.

During the past summer holiday Deri interned at Dirgantara Indonesia in the department of Planning and Controlling. At this department, Deri was able to implement all that she learned during her studies at Lone Star College and Texas Tech University. In ten years Deri sees herself working as a consultant in one of the best consulting firms in the world, helping clients find solutions to their problems and offer international standard service. She not only wants to provide solutions to their problems but also play a direct role in every field research. She also dreams to be the CEO of her own consulting firm. Deri aspires to create and broaden the job market in Indonesia, advance the nation through improving the quality of human resources and helping Indonesia become a progressive nation that plays an important role in global development. a modest family.
