Kediri, July 19, 2025 – The Kediri Regency Government has officially launched a full scholarship program for 100 underprivileged students at SMA Dharma Wanita 1 Pare Boarding School. The scholarships cover tuition and boarding costs for three years and reflect the local government's commitment to improving education quality and breaking the cycle of poverty.
Rigorous and Holistic Selection Process
The selection process ran from February to June 2025 and included:
- Administrative screening: Based on school grades and national poverty data (DTKS)
- Home visits: To verify family conditions
- Bootcamp: Including health checks, psychological tests, academic assessments, and group discussions
Only highly motivated students from the poorest socio-economic backgrounds were accepted into the program.
Strategic Collaboration with PSF
The program is a result of strategic collaboration between the Kediri Regency Government and the Putera Sampoerna Foundation (PSF). In addition to high school access, PSF supports students with pathways to higher education, both at public and private universities.
During the Student Inauguration on July 19, 2025, key figures were present, including:
- Director of Elderly Rehabilitation, Ministry of Social Affairs of Indonesia, Suratna
- Head of Kediri Education Office, Mokhamad Muhsin
- Senior Director of PSF, Elan Merdy
In his remarks, Mokhamad Muhsin emphasized that these students will become future change-makers for Kediri. The Ministry of Social Affairs also expressed hope for the students to inspire long-term educational transformation.
Long-Term Social Impact
This scholarship initiative is part of the Lighthouse School Program, initiated in 2023, which aims to reduce dropout rates and improve the livelihoods of underprivileged families. To date, 360 underprivileged students are enrolled in the program.
PSF is also building partnerships with top universities such as ITS, UNESA, and Universitas Brawijaya to secure scholarships for future graduates of the boarding school.
PSF invites more companies and partners to join this movement, so more Indonesian children can access quality education and grow according to their talents and potential. Together, let’s expand the positive impact in the education sector through sustainable collaboration.
